The pellets are also \u003cem\u003epelletised rather than extruded\u003c\/em\u003e, which Roudybush say preserves more of the fibre.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch3\u003eSwitching your bird onto Roudybush\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRoudybush publish several methods. Two are worth knowing:\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe height trick.\u003c\/strong\u003e Birds prefer to eat from the higher dish. Put the old food in a low dish and Roudybush in a higher one, with the water near the top dish. Curiosity plus preference does the work. When the old food drops below 10% of what is being eaten, take the low dish away.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cstrong\u003eThe controlled switch.\u003c\/strong\u003e Two days for a small bird, three for a large one: remove the old food entirely. Line the cage with \u003cstrong\u003epaper, not corncob litter\u003c\/strong\u003e, so you can read the droppings.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\n\u003ch4\u003eWhat the droppings tell you\u003c\/h4\u003e\n\u003cul\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eVery small, very dark green, almost black\u003c\/strong\u003e — the bird is not eating. Act.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eClear liquid with little green\u003c\/strong\u003e — it is filling up on water instead of food.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003e\n\u003cstrong\u003eLight tan, larger volume\u003c\/strong\u003e — it has converted. This is what success looks like.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eRoudybush's own warnings, worth taking literally: \u003cem\u003e\"Do not use this method on a thin bird, sick bird, or a bird you cannot monitor.\"\u003c\/em\u003e \u003cem\u003e\"Keep your bird on Roudybush unless it loses more than 3% of its body weight.\"\u003c\/em\u003e And: \u003cem\u003e\"Disappearance of food from the dish is not a reliable way of determining if your bird is eating\"\u003c\/em\u003e — birds throw unfamiliar pellets on the floor.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eIf it fails, go back to the old diet for seven days and try again. Most birds convert on the first attempt; stubborn ones usually go on the second.
