Morning Bird Aloe Vera & Feather Guard Bird Sprays

Central heating is the enemy of a tropical bird's skin. Most parrot species evolved in humidity we do not live in, and a house in winter is drier than anywhere they would naturally be — which is why so many birds get flaky skin and dull feathers between October and March.

Both of these are topical sprays, applied to the bird rather than given in food or water.

Aloe Vera — 8 fl oz

A pH-balanced misting spray formulated to mimic tropical rain — distilled water and organic aloe vera, with no alcohol, dyes or synthetic fragrance. Used to relieve dry, flaky, itchy skin, support feather condition and help a bird through a moult. Many owners find a regular misting settles a nervous bird as well.

How to use: shake well, spray from about 12 inches, avoiding the eyes. Let the bird air-dry naturally somewhere warm and free of draughts — never with a hairdryer. Up to three times daily.

A lot of birds dislike misting at first and love it within a fortnight. Start with a light spray above the bird so it falls like rain rather than aiming at it directly.

Feather Guard — 8 fl oz

A no-rinse skin and feather spray built on organic oat straw (Avena sativa) extract, formulated for birds that pick at their feathers. The idea behind it is indirect and worth understanding: it is intended to soothe irritated skin, on the reasoning that uncomfortable skin is one of the things that drives picking.

Please read this honestly. Feather picking has many causes — medical, hormonal, nutritional, environmental and behavioural — and skin irritation is only one of them. No spray stops a plucking bird from plucking. A bird that has started needs an avian vet first, to rule out the physical causes, and then usually changes to its environment, diet and routine. This is a reasonable thing to try alongside that work. It is not a cure, and we would rather say so.

How to use: spray gently onto the skin and feathers until wet. Repeat as necessary. No rinsing. Store cool and dry.

Ingredients: organic oat straw extract powder with a Geogard ECT preservative system. Free of herbicides and pesticides.
