Common questions
How long do they last? Days to a few weeks depending on the bird and the toy. Kick Ball and Bagel Cascade are the sturdiest here; Dangler Delight goes fastest.
My bird is frightened of new toys. Normal, and fixable. Leave the toy outside the cage where it can be seen for two or three days, then hang it at the far end, then move it closer over a week. Don't put a new toy straight next to the food bowl — a bird that won't go to its food is a real problem.
How many at once? Three or four, swapped every week or two. A cage packed with permanent toys stops being interesting; the same toys rotated stay novel.
When do I throw one out? When the hardware is exposed, a cord has frayed to a thread, or any part could catch a toe or a beak.
Buy three, not one
Rotation is what makes toys work, and you can't rotate a single toy. Three of these at once will do more for your bird than one expensive toy left up for six months.
