How is this different from a palm preening fan? The strands are firmer and have a defined tip, so there is a specific thing to pull at. Birds that find soft palm fans boring often take to this instead.

Is it a chew toy or a preening toy? Both, and which one it becomes depends on your bird. Chewers strip it; preeners groom it for months.

Should I check it for wear? Yes — as with any strand toy, trim back any strand that has worked loose long enough to wrap around a toe. A quick look each week is enough.
