Please keep your bird away from the decorations
Worth saying plainly, because it comes up every year:
- Tinsel and ribbon — swallowed strands can cause fatal gut blockages
- Fairy light wiring — a chewed cable is an electrocution risk
- Glass and painted ornaments — breakage and unknown paints
- Artificial snow and scented candles — birds' respiratory systems are far more sensitive than ours, and airborne particles and fumes affect them badly
- Poinsettia, holly, mistletoe and yew — all a problem if chewed
If your bird is out of the cage in a decorated room, supervise it. Give it its own festive toy instead.
Common questions
Can I leave it up after Christmas? Of course. The vine swing in particular is a perfectly good year-round toy — birds have no opinion about the season.
Good as a gift? The Star is a natural stocking filler for a bird-owning friend, and the Wreath Swing makes a proper present.
Will it last through the holidays? The Star is small and meant to be destroyed. If you want it to survive to Christmas Day, don't hang it in November.
