Morning Bird Feather & Moult Support

A moult is one of the most demanding things a bird's body does. Feathers are almost entirely protein, and growing a full set in a few weeks takes protein, B vitamins and biotin out of the bird faster than an ordinary diet replaces them. Birds in moult get irritable, tired and scruffy for a reason.

Two products here, doing different jobs.

Feather Fast — the moult supplement

A powder carrying 17 vitamins and minerals, with biotin and the B-complex as the headline feather inputs. Morning Bird formulate it for the moult and feather-regrowth period, to support feather growth and plumage condition and to take some of the strain off a moulting bird.

Dosing: in water, ¼ teaspoon per ounce of drinking water, changed daily. Or in food, ⅛ teaspoon for a small bird up to 1 teaspoon for an extra-large one, daily. One method, not both.

Important: Morning Bird say not to use it alongside other vitamin supplements. Fat-soluble vitamins accumulate, and stacking products is how a bird ends up with too much of one rather than enough of everything.

Ingredients: corn maltodextrin, whey protein concentrate, vitamins A, D3 and E, B-complex, biotin, folic acid, zinc sulfate, iron sulfate and copper sulfate.

Feather-Glo — the oil

A single ingredient: pure organic red dende palm oil, 97% fat. Fed as a dietary fat supplement rather than applied to the bird. Morning Bird position it for dry, flaky skin and for feather sheen, and single out macaws, cockatoos and African greys as the species that benefit most — which matches what most keepers of those species will tell you about dry skin.

Dosing: warm the container until the oil liquefies, then 1–2 drops per 3 oz of body weight daily, mixed into the regular food.

Which one, or both?

Feather Fast is for the moult itself — a defined period of a few weeks. Feather-Glo is for skin and feather condition generally, and many owners of greys and cockatoos use it year-round. They are not alternatives and many households use both, though Feather Fast should not be stacked with a separate multivitamin.

Before you buy either

Poor feather condition has a long list of possible causes, and diet is only one of them. A bird that is plucking, or whose feathers are coming in damaged or barred, needs an avian vet rather than a supplement. These support a normal moult; they do not fix an abnormal one.

Not for human consumption. Keep away from children. Not for birds kept for meat or egg consumption. Store cool, dark and dry.
