Every bird owner has had this argument. You chop the carrot, you steam the broccoli, you arrange it nicely, and the parrot throws all of it on the floor and looks at you.

Garden Veggie Nutri-Berries are the workaround. Real pieces of carrot, green pea, broccoli and corn are worked into Lafeber's hulled-seed berry, so the vegetables arrive attached to something the bird already wants to eat. It is not a replacement for fresh produce — Lafeber still want greens and vegetables at around 20% of the daily diet — but it gets vegetables into a bird that has decided against them.

How much to feed

Lafeber's published guidance: small parrots 10 berries at a time, medium parrots 15, large parrots 20. Fresh food and water always available. Keep offering the fresh vegetables alongside — birds change their minds, often years later, and a bird that has seen broccoli every day for a decade is more likely to try it than one that has not.

A trick worth knowing

Break a berry in half and mix the pieces through a bowl of chopped fresh vegetables. Some birds that will not touch a plate of veg will pick through it for the berry crumbs and eat the vegetables almost by accident. It does not always work. When it does, it works for years.

Does this replace fresh vegetables?
No. It is a complete diet in itself, but fresh produce brings water, texture and variety a dried berry cannot. Treat this as a bridge, not a substitute.

Is there a version for cockatiels?
Lafeber make Garden Veggie for parrots only. For a small bird, El Paso is the nearest savoury option.

Can I feed it as the whole diet?
Yes — it is formulated as a complete daily food.
