Soft food matters most at the points when a bird's protein demand spikes: breeding, moulting and rearing chicks. Parent birds feed soft food to nestlings because a chick cannot manage hard seed, and a hen in lay needs more protein than her usual bowl provides. It is also useful for an older bird that finds hard food harder work than it used to be.

It is enriched with vitamins and minerals and fortified with whey protein, so it is a nutritional food rather than simply a soft one.

Ingredients

Corn meal, oat groats, bread crumbs, assorted millet seeds, whey protein concentrate, flaxseed meal, canola oil, plus vitamin and mineral supplements.

How to feed it

Ready to serve. Offer it free-choice in its own dish, or mix it through the bird's regular food. Safe for daily, year-round feeding to all adult birds.

Practical note: it is a soft food, so treat it like one. Put it out fresh, and take the dish away after a couple of hours rather than leaving it in a warm cage all day.
