Getting a bird onto pellets is the hardest thing most owners ever try to do. The nutrition case is settled; the bird disagrees. Pellet-Berries exist to close that gap.

Lafeber's own formula for it: 81% pellets + 19% individual fruits and grains = 100% enriched nutrition. So the bird gets a diet that is overwhelmingly pellet — but it arrives as a round berry with real cranberries, apricots and dates in it, something to hold in a foot and pull apart, rather than a uniform brown lozenge in a bowl.

For a bird that has flatly refused pellets, this is the most useful bag in the Lafeber range.

Ingredients

Corn, soybean meal, dried fruit (cranberries, apricots, dates), red millet, maltodextrin, wheat flour, hulled canary grass seed, canola oil, corn syrup, glycerin, dicalcium phosphate, ground limestone, hydrolysed soy protein, carrageenan, iodised salt, choline chloride, DL-methionine, citric acid, ground rice, natural vanilla flavour, chelated manganese, zinc and copper, xanthan gum, and a full stabilised vitamin pack. No artificial flavours or colours; non-GMO; made in the USA.

Using it to convert a bird onto pellets

1. Offer Pellet-Berries in place of the seed mix, at the same times you normally feed.
2. Give it properly — a bird offered both seed and something new will eat the seed every time.
3. Weigh daily on a gram scale. This is not optional. A bird that stops eating is in trouble quickly, and a small bird can be in serious difficulty within 36–48 hours.
4. Watch the droppings. Fewer, smaller or drier means less food is going in than you think.
5. Once the bird is eating Pellet-Berries reliably, a straight pellet is a much shorter step — or simply stay here. It is a complete diet in its own right.

Speak to your avian vet before any diet change, particularly with a bird under 50 g or one that is already underweight.

How much to feed

Lafeber's published guidance: small parrots 10 berries at a time, medium parrots 15, large parrots 20. Greens, vegetables and some fruit at around 20% of the daily diet.

Is this a transition food or a permanent diet?
Either. It is nutritionally complete, so a bird can stay on it indefinitely.

How is it different from Classic Nutri-Berries?
Almost entirely. Classic is mostly whole hulled seed with 8–16.5% pellets. This is 81% pellet. Same shape, very different food.

My bird eats the fruit pieces and abandons the rest.
Feed less at a time so there is nothing left to sort. It usually resolves inside a fortnight.

Can I mix it with my bird's current pellet?
