Lafeber Popcorn Nutri-Berrie Treats for Birds 4 oz

This one is a treat, and Lafeber say so plainly — unlike the rest of the Nutri-Berry range, it is not a complete diet. We are telling you that up front because a lot of shops do not.

Real popcorn and peanuts with a natural caramel flavour, pressed into the familiar round berry. It smells like a cinema foyer when you open the bag, which is exactly why it works.

What it is actually for

• Training. A reward only works if the bird wants it more than it wants to ignore you. This clears that bar.
• Nail trims, harness practice, stepping into a carrier. The jobs birds hate go better with something worth having at the end.
• Foraging toys. Break a berry up and hide the pieces.
• Shy or rehomed birds. A treat a bird will take from your hand buys trust faster than any amount of talking at it.

How much

Treats — all treats together, not just these — should stay a small fraction of the daily diet. Lafeber do not publish a per-day count for this product. In practice: one or two for a budgie or cockatiel, a few for a large parrot, and fewer on a day when the bird has had other treats.

Ingredients

Cockatiel & Parakeet: hulled canary grass seed, hulled white proso millet, popcorn, hulled oats, maltodextrin, peanuts, red millet, glycerin, corn syrup, dicalcium phosphate, ground rice, soybean meal, ground corn, wheat flour, hydrolysed soy protein, canola oil, carrageenan, iodised salt, ground limestone, caramel flavouring, L-lysine, xanthan gum, citric acid, plus a stabilised vitamin and chelated mineral pack.

Parrot: the same idea with popcorn leading the list, and safflower and rapeseed added.

Is popcorn safe for birds?
Plain popped corn is. What makes cinema popcorn a bad idea is the salt and butter, not the corn — and there is none of that here.

Can I feed it as a meal?
No. Lafeber position this as a treat. Feed a complete diet as the base and use these for training and enrichment.

My bird only wants these now.
Then they have done their job too well. Put them away for a week and use them only as a reward, not as food in the bowl.

Which size for my bird?
Choose by species — the Cockatiel & Parakeet berry is smaller than the Parrot one. Both come in the 4 oz bag.
