Two situations pull weight off a bird faster than anything else: feeding a nest full of chicks, and being a chick that has just been weaned. High-Energy Breeder is built for both.

At a 19% protein minimum it is far richer than the 11% maintenance formula, with extra calcium and vitamin D3 on top. Roudybush recommend it for breeding birds actively feeding chicks, and for weaning birds through the first one to three months after weaning — the stretch where a young bird that has just started feeding itself has usually lost condition and needs to get it back.

When to use it

• Parent birds actively feeding chicks.
• Newly weaned chicks, for one to three months, to recover weaning weight loss.
• Mixed one part to two parts Daily Maintenance, for birds needing more calcium — or as a way of easing a bird onto Roudybush.

It is not an everyday diet for an adult pet bird. Once the job is done, move back to Daily Maintenance.

Cool, dry and out of sunlight. A rich, oily feed goes off faster than a lean one — refrigerating extends the shelf life considerably, and freezing further still.

My weaned baby is losing weight.
Some loss across weaning is normal; continued loss is not. This diet is made for the recovery, but a bird that keeps dropping weight needs an avian vet, not just a richer bag.

Can I feed it to an adult pet bird permanently?
No. At 19% protein with added calcium and D3 it is a working diet, not a maintenance one.

High-Energy Breeder or Breeder?
Breeder through egg production and for birds in good condition. High-Energy Breeder when the parents are actively feeding chicks, and for newly weaned birds.

Can I mix it with Daily Maintenance?
Yes — Roudybush publish exactly that, one part to two, for birds needing extra calcium or being introduced to the range.
