Common questions
Will this stop my bird plucking? On its own, no — and any site that promises that is not being straight with you. Feather-destructive behaviour has medical causes as often as behavioural ones, so start with an avian vet. A preening toy is one part of the management plan they will usually recommend.
How is it different from a shredder? The strands are finer and the toy is meant to be groomed rather than destroyed, so it lasts much longer.
Where should I hang it? Right next to the perch your bird sleeps or rests on. Preening happens at rest, so the toy has to be within reach of where the bird settles.
Give it time
Preening toys are slow burners. A bird may ignore one for a week and then use it daily. Leave it up.
