Description
Watch a parrot eat and you will notice it lifts food to its beak with one foot, standing on the other. That grip is a skill, and like any skill it needs practice. Foot toys are the practice.
They are also the cheapest enrichment you can buy. Most of these cost less than a coffee, and a handful scattered on the cage floor will occupy a bird that has ignored every expensive hanging toy you ever bought.

How to actually use them
Do not put one in a bowl and expect anything to happen. Foot toys work when there are several, on the floor and on flat surfaces, so the bird trips over them.
- Scatter four or five on the cage floor and on the play stand. Birds investigate what is in the way.
- Rotate them weekly. Super Bird Creations recommend keeping four to six toys going and swapping them out — a toy that vanishes for a fortnight comes back new.
- Hand them over. A toy you have been holding and looking at is far more interesting than one that appeared in the cage.
- Stuff the hollow ones. Coin Toss, Firecracker Sticks, Paper Fingers and the Beaker Sneaker all take treats, which turns a foot toy into a foraging toy for free.
Sizing matters more here than anywhere else
A foot toy that is too small is a choking hazard; too large and the bird cannot hold it, so it never gets picked up. Match the grade to the bird — the small-bird toys here suit budgies, cockatiels, lovebirds and parrotlets; the XL Birdie Ball is made for the big parrots.
Safety
Supervise a new toy the first time. Check the shreddables regularly and replace them once they are worked through. Where anything hangs, use quick links or pear links — never split rings, spring clips or shower rings.
